What is a Carbon Registry?

A registry is where companies can declare and record the results of their GHG emission offsetting retirement. Registries incentivise early action, as companies will receive recognition for their voluntary emissions reduction efforts under any future regulatory schemes. Registries are often used to track GHG emissions, GHG emission reductions and/or GHG removal enhancements by assigning a unique identifier to each activity. Registries can help demonstrate ownership, transparency, integrity and support market transactions.
